A final reminder that tmrw morning is "Rick's Day". I spoke with him today and he has made about as much progress as one man can. He has a clear plan which sounds very do-able by about half a doZen men; safer and faster if there are more of us.

The idea is basically to transfer stuff from the garage out to the shelters, and place the cars inside the garage. We need to extract a Roadster and a ZX from collapsed shelters, maybe free up the locked rear brakes on a Z car so it rolls, then drop a threatening tree.
Once we can build up a good shelter we can put a lot of garage stuff into it, leaving room in the garage for the cars, where they'll be safe for the winter. Shelter framework can be built with wood, so you carpenters should show up, too.

Please bring whatever protective gear you might have (helmets, gloves, glasses, common sense) and an analytical eye.

Z y'all about 10AM.

Well this went off in grand style. A doZen CTZCC members showed up with chainsaws and shovels and other implements of mass destruction and got the job done in less than 4hrs. Happy to say there were no reported injuries! :D
Ross and Jim fed us (but wiZely waited until the heavy work was mostly done) and we were grateful for that ~ we had all worked up an appetite and were ready to sit on a tree stump awhile.

Basically, we had to extract a Z car and a Roadster from collapsed shelters, then fell a threatening tree (two, actually), chop them up, then pull down the worthless shelters. Then we built two good shelters from the parts available and moved mucho boxes of Z parts under them. The two Zs and the Roadster were then put into position far from the strike zone of any trees, and covered temporarily so an insurance adjuster has access to them. They will eventually go into the garage once enough space is cleared in there.

The Z car rear brakes were locked up and refused to turn, so it had to be jacked up and both rear wheels removed and the brake drums hammered off before it would roll. The little 1600 Roadster was amaZingly cooperative, doing everything we asked it to after we simply inflated one tire and figured out how to remove about 600lbs of standing water hanging above it in the remnant folds of the collapsed shelter.

By the time 1400 came around we were all pretty much spent. Rick was very appreciative and we are all thankful that we got to these cars before the snow did. This was a good thing to do and we actually had a pretty good time working together. Jason Winget should be proud that he was directly to blame for us discovering this disaster, and he would be happy that so many of us responded to the emergency call.

There were a lot of heroes today, and it was grand to zee so many of us (including new join Steve [BeerDart] from Hamden) and those who traveled so far to help (Paul enroute from NY to RI) and all points in between.

I think by far tho, the biggest heroes of the day were Ross with his chili and Jim with his hotdogs right at the perfect time. 8)

Thanks to everybody who showed up, laughed so much and worked so hard. That really was a wonderful Club event to share, and it was for a great cause. So glad we didn't cause more damage than we fixed!

Frank T
